Abstract

Effect of Occupational Stress and Fatigue of Dental Radiology Technologists

Objectives : As dental practitioners are responsible for oral health care, they strive to improve their skills and knowledge in dental science. The main goals of the study are to examine and analyze quality of medical care for patients, the problems that exit in the work environment and dental radiation-related stress and fatigue.

Materials and methods : A nationwide survey was taken with 11 dentists working in the dental clinics within hospital environment. The subjects for the study were dentists and dental laboratory technician who passed the stress measurement test. The t-test, correlation analysis and regression analysis were employed to perform the data analysis.

Results :

1) Relatively lower stress level is significantly related to Job responsibilities and authority which have the highest test score of 56.11. Job insecurity is associated with a low score of 44.44. Disfuntional organizational process and lacking in communications resulted in the test score of 59.44 and inter-relational conflict and work place culture resulted in a score of 39.0.

2) Physical atigue felt over the last 2 weeks is associated with the highest score of 33.34, and psychological fatigue resulted in a score of 12.94.

3) Job insecurity is statistically significantly associated with disfunctional daily life. There is a strong positive correlation between job insecurity and unstable daily life.

Conclusions : For those who work as dentists in the Dental Hospital, a further research to reduce job stress and fatigue, improve the quality of health care services and enhance the work environment is essential.
