ABSTRACT

A Study of the Gait Training System for the
Rehabilitation of the Gait Disorder Patients

In this study, the gait training system were designed and developed for the gait disorder patients through a dynamic simulation analysis.
The motion trajectory of a knee & ankle joint was evaluated and a measured trajectory with three-dimensional motion analysis system was compared with the results of multi-body dynamic simulation during the gait training of the normal gait and disorder gait in a prototype of a developed gait training system.

From this study, the following conclusions have been drawn.
1. The trajectory of planetary gear used in the gait training system is designed to rotate the eccentricity and therefore the normal gait stance-swing is ideal in the ratio of 60:40 for driving.
2. The motion trajectory of the knee/ankle joints in the gait training system is affected by modelling conditions such as the diameter of the gear, step length, the curvature radius of an induction trajectory and foot plate length.
- The proper gear size is about 20cm because the increase of the diameter of the gear grow the overall exterior length of driving part.
- Depending on the status of each patient's ability to exercise, the gear must be able to change the step length so that they are gait trained effectively. The radius of curvature of the footplate guide does not affect the motion trajectory.
- The changes of foot plate length affect the knee joints more than the ankle joints and the stride length can be changed by controlling the foot plate length.
3. Analysis of each patient’s evaluation index demonstrated that the developed gait training system can be expected to prove helpful to those people who need to recover their gait ability.
