Abstract
In Korean fork medicine, Humulus japonicus has been used for treatment of various inflammatory disorders such as pulmonary tuberculosis, tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis. Some studies reported that Humulus japonicus possess antioxidant, antibacterial & antimutagenic activities. But anti-inflammatory activity has not studied yet. So this study was designed to investigate the inhibitory effects of methanol extract from Humulus japonicus leaves, stalks and roots on NO production and expression of iNOS in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cell lines. Treatment of LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells with Humulus japonicus methanol extracts significantly reduced the production of NO and the expression of iNOS in a dose-dependent manner. These results shows that the methanol extract from Humulus japonicus may explain some known biological activities including anti-inflammatory effect and Humulus japonicus may have a considerable benefit in the treatment for pro-inflammatory mediator overproduction such as bacterial septic shock, immunological diseases.
