Abstract

Key word : OHIP, older, oral prophylaxis Objectives : In the aged society, the necessity of oral health care is increasing because of the their missing tooth as a result of chronic periodontal disease. Oral health care of the aged is very important to improve the quality of life. So the purpose of this study was to evaluated awareness of experienced oral prophylaxis at public health center. Material and methods : The sample was investigated 319 of over 65 years old on 6 of 22 pubic health centers in Jeonnam province after treated oral prophylaxis. We used to questionnaire of self awareness oral health condition included Oral Health Impact Profile(OHIP). Results : 1. In experienced oral prophylaxis group, the rate of have not denture wear was 21.2% and remained tooth over 20 was 26.0%(p<0.05). 2. OHIP score experienced oral prophylaxis group, was reduced to 3.5-3.7 in tooth hypersensitivity and dry mouth OHIP subscal score. 3. In physical pain and disability of OHIP subscal score, experienced oral prophylaxis grop is lower 0.5 than control group. 4. In physical pain and disability of OHIP subscal score, good periodontal condition of experienced oral prophylaxis group, is lower 1.2-1.3 than control group.

In conclusion : From this result, experienced on group is higher quality of life than control group. Oral prophylaxis of health center should be expanded to the elderly for increasing good oral health.
