- Abstract
- As civilization has developed, human beings have been mentally and physically prosperous, but they are having a crisis of the civilization. As rapid life style of current people brought abundance of high-calory fast food and they eat them relentlessly, they have serious diseases in their intestines.
If we make food using materials that are produced at proper period, out intestines can circulate naturally and if we do not, we have serious disorder in our intestines.
We have come to the world whose external environment is adjusted to change.
'Like curse like' is a term that explains how we have to adjust to such external environment.
However, contemporary people have cold air and food in the middle of summer, which reverses environment. Wrong eating habits cause diseases and disorder in the intestines. As the disorder in the intestines is connected to the kidney relating to the sexual organ, which causes sterility. In Oriental medical science, the kidney composes the bladder and the outer skin, and stores energy. The energy stored in the kidney stores energy transformed into Soogok in the five visceras and the six entrails as well as the energy of the main intestines, which nourishes each organ of the intestines and the body. The energy stored in the kidney is obtained form the continuous eating of food, which is a basic matter to maintain life and growth of human bodies. And the kidney organizes water, and the Samcho, the bladder, and the Leejang organize sap, which nourishes bone and marrow. As it assists the skeleton and nourishes the bone marrow, growth and development of the brain is decided by the ups and downs of the kidney energy. The kidney stores energy, or vitality by depositing Myeongmunjihwa. As it is connected to the lung of the upper body, its vein passes through the Gyeok of the upper body and goes into the lung, it organizes Napki(納氣).
The kidney which is related to the sexual organ produces sperms. Why many contemporary people are sterile relies on exposure to cold food and environment.
This study suggests that eating patterns of royal court is very similar to that of contemporary people. It examines what meaning there is in the kidney which is central of the similarity, and what functions the food materials to protect the kidney have in order to identify whether the functional purpose of the kidney is proper.
This study focuses on 12 sets of dishes and the food and materials relating to the kidney except a great number of food and food materials for royal courts.
The royal court menu is roughly categorized into four: for breakfast, light meal such as gruel is served to decrease burden to the stomach, and for the last three meals, 12 sets of dishes are served in a daily basis. In particular, many kinds of black food is specially served because black indicates water, or the kidney in accordance with the five elements theory.
The royal courts considers food as the most important secret to keep healthy, and food and materials are classified for proper management. For the energy of the kings, black food is considered as helpful for the kidney.
Following the black food, fish and sea food are considered as important. As seen in this study, as it was thought that fish and sea food enjoyed in the royal courts are related to the kidney, they were sent to Seoul to serve it to the king. As the women in the courts had depression and much stress, it caused many female troubles. In particular, having a son relating to the kidney was one of the largest stress causes for them. The women in the courts had to have their wombs warm so they frequently ate food made to nourish the blood and energy.
As examined above, all the food is the origin of health and the purpose lies on our instinct to have family. The kidney is an internal organ which is faithful to the instinct of the origin, and to nourish it, it is desirable to apply the food and food materials relating to the kidney to overcome diseases related to the kidney contemporary people have.
