요양병원의 보완대체요법 적용을 위한 방법론적 고찰

Abstract

Recently as our society is becoming an aging society, the prevalence rate of elders' chronic degenerative illnesses has been increasing. Thus, we come to need a lot of long-term care hospitals which provide senior citizens with medical treatments and long-term care. In order to treat chronic diseases of the elders, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), which is considered helpful in preventing and treating illnesses and improving general health, has been used frequently these days.

From this point of view, This study try to look into methodology in order to utilize CAM to senior patients who are in the long-term care hospital effectively, so ultimately help improve their general health condition. In the process of the study, it refer to the Korean aged population increase, degenerative chronic diseases, long-term care hospitals, internal and international paperworks concerning CAM, and the statistical data of public health institutions, and review and analyse paperworks correlated this study.

The results of the Methodological study for the utilization of CAM to the old patients in the Long-Term care Hospitals is condensed into 4 steps. In the first step - assessment or diagnosis phase, To assess or diagnose various physical, psychological, social factors and functional levels of old patients who would get utilization of CAM In the second step - plan or prescription phase, planning the utilization of CAM and the object of CAM based upon the assessment or diagnosis of respective old patients. In the third step - Implementation phase, make progress the utilization of CAM for the aged patients with 2nd steps plan. In the fourth step - evaluation phase, compare and evaluate the condition and satisfaction level of the aged patients with the utilization of CAM.

In conclusion, the methodology for utilization of CAM is necessary for solution of systematical application that CAM expert help the promotion of health level and quality of life which is keep up with patients' medical, psychological and social desires.

When CAM is implemented properly and systematically, together with medical treatment, it will be help to improve the health of the aged suffering from chronic diseases.

Also, in order to manage and supervise CAM more efficiently in the national dimension, the independent organization should be established to arrange the related laws, and verify CAM more systematically, and provide the related information more efficiently.
