아토피성 피부증상 개선을 위한 편백정유의 비누와 스프레이, 로션의 제조 및 효능

Abstract

This study was conducted on 40 patients with atopic dermatitis in Gwangju and Jeonnam areas from September 1st to 30th, 2007. Patients who had not been on steroid or anti-histamine medication, or allergy depressants and with no other skin diseases but atopic dermatitis were carefully chosen for the experiment. The patients were asked to use soap and moisturizer based on Chamaecyparis obtusa essential oil for the experiment period. After the period, a survey and patient report were conducted to find out the following results.

1) 70% of atopic dermatitis broke out when seasons change, especially 60% did between the autumn and the winter.

2) 35% patients said using Chamaecyparis obtusa essential oil-based soap and moisturizer remarkably improved their condition, 30% said improved, and 25% a little improved. In total, over 65% patients showed improvement of their skin condition.

3) The patients reported they saw improvements in itchiness (65%) and dryness (27.5%) which are the two most painful symptoms of atopic dermatitis. Thus, it can be concluded that the soap and moisturizer showed significant results in the improvement of the disease.

4) In the question asking for the best merit of the soap and moisturizer, 65% of the patients said the efficacy and effects of the product and 25% answered safety. The answer showed the soap and moisturizer gained patients' trust in the respect of the product's efficacy, effects, and safety.

Various data collected from the survey and reports showed that Chamaecyparis obtusa Essential oil helped to improve the symptoms of atopic dermatitis, especially the two major complaints, itchiness and dryness. For such a sensitive disease as atopic dermatitis, it is better to take small steps to relieve its symptoms by using supplementary product for external application. A further improvement on the symptoms and the disease itself, then, can be expected from the product's significant effects on moisturizing and protecting function.
