- Abstract
- A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is a self-configuring network composed of mobile nodes and wireless links. Mobile nodes are free to move randomly and are unstable. Since network topology changes rapidly and unpredictably in MANETs, the design of a robust routing protocol becomes extremely important.
In this paper, a fault-tolerant routing protocol based on AODV called FT-AODV is proposed for reliable and high-performance routing in MANETs. In FT-AODV, the RREP (Route Reply) packet is modified and a new RSAL (Route Salvage) packet is defined. When a link is broken, FT-AODV tries to find a detour path fast and allows the on-going data packet to be delivered to the destination.
The performance of the proposed FT-AODV is evaluated via tensive simulation, where the ns-2 network simulator in used. According to performance evaluation result, average end-to-end packet delay is reduced by 40% and routing load is decreased by 13% compared to AODV.
