Abstract
Titanium is used as biomaterial in dental, orthopedic and cardiovascular fields. Dental and orthopedic implants-related bacterial infection is a major rising clinical problem. Chlorhexidine is generally use as disinfectant or antibiotics in medical science.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of antibacterial of chlorhexidine grafted Cp-titanium by plasma polymerization process. Cp-titanium surface was modified with acrylic acid plasma polymerization to have carboxyl group on the surface and then grafted with chlorhexidine grafting solution. Anti-bacterial behavior was tested the chlorhexidine coated titanium surface by serial dilution method and microscopic examination. Chlorhexidine inhibited the growth of the S. aureus on a Cp-titanium. These results are in focused on immobilizing bio-active molecules on metal surfaces.
