Abstract
This study is the analysis of the 「Carnaval Op.9」based on the characteristics of Schumann's piano pieces and character pieces.
Robert Alexander Schumann(1810-1856) Started from the conception besides music to empathize the mood to his music.
He made a unique and creative style through character piece.
Also, most of his piano works were composed of suit style and mainly formed from short constructive melody to long constructive melody.
The musical characteristics of 「Carnaval op.9」, which is related to each titles used in the work, are variable melodies, frequent change of meter or tonality.
The most technically difficult parts in the ?Carnaval op.9?, Papillons, Reconnaissance, Pantalon et Colombine, and Paganini.
These feature of 「Carnaval op.9」 show the romantic aspects of liberal forms and structures and compositional techniques, deviating from the classical music.
In synthetic analysis of 「Carnaval op.9」, the unique romantic style of Schumann can be found in melody, harmony, rhythm.
In result 「Carnaval op.9」is the most brilliant characteristic piece with invention and imaginnation on the composer's subjective emotion.
When performing this piece, however, it is important to have an attitude to revive tone with changing rhythm and contrapuntal melody than giving weight to technical aspect.
