- Abstract
- The ammonia are generated in large amount at leather processing plant, sanitary station and water treatment. Among various odor removal techniques, the adsorption has advantage in removing non-continuous, high concentration gases. To increase the removal efficiency at low cost, the activated carbon was impregnated with HNO3, H2SO4 and CH3COOH to remove dissolved ammonia. Activated carbon with H2SO4 showed higher removal efficiency of ammonia among solution test.
1. Time to reach adsorption equilibrium for impregnated active carbons was 8~34 minuets for NH3 by impregnating agent. Adsorption equilibrium was reached in the order HNO3, H2SO4, and CH3(COOH). H2SO4, CH3(COOH), HNO3-impregnated activated carbons reached adsorption equilibrium more rapidly than activated carbon, and for NH3, adsorption equilibrium of CH3(COOH)-impregnated activated carbons were reached slower than H2SO4, HNO3-impregnated activated carbon.
3. 1/n value of activated carbons was 0.14~0.38 for NH3 which improved adsorption in liquid phase.
4. As a result of impregnation, the K value of activated carbon for NH3 increased 298~881%, improving adsorption capacity of activated carbons.
K values of HNO3-impregnated activated carbon for NH3 higher than activated carbon.
