Abstract
The purpose of this study was aim to evaluate the osseointegration at implant after horizontal distraction osteogenesis in narrow alveolar bone and compare that if there is difference between conventional Titanium distraction device and TiN coated device.
Four adult mongrel dogs, weighting about 9-10kg were used in this study. The lower premolars were extracted and horizontal distraction with conventional Titanium distraction devices(group 1) and TiN coatd devices(group 2). After 8 weeks of consolidation period, implants were installed and the dogs are sacrificed after 4 and 8 weeks. For the evaluate the osseointegration around implants, histomorphologic analysis was performed.
There was 1 failure in experimental group 1 because of fracture of the device. Direct bone contact was achieved and there was no significant difference among control group, experimental group 1 and group 2 of osseointegration around implants at 4 and 8 weeks.
As a result, Intraoral distraction osteogenesis can be a good option for alveolar ridge augmentation of the severely atrophied ridges and TiN coated device may be more useful for its advantages for example surface hardness, corosion residence, reduction of bacteria etc.
