- Abstract
- Schumann, one of the representative composers in the first half nineteen century used program music and character piece to compose style throughout unite literature and music. Also, most of his piano works were composed of suite style and mainly formed from short constructive melody to long constructive melody. These musical forms were appeared as the romanticism character and deal with the tendency of his work. With this regard, this thesis analyzed Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op.26.
First, the first and third is a rondo form and the second and fourth adopted ternany forms, and the fifth in a suite sonata form or free sonata form.
Second, the melody is simple and shows frequent repetitons and sequential progress throughout the work and 4th, 5th degree perform conjunct motion and chromatic scale motion.
Third, various rhythm patterns were used such as dotted rhythm, syncopations and cross rhythms.
Fourth, in the harmony 7th and 9th chords were frequently used for chromatic progress and altered chords and continual pedal harmony.
Fifth, in the tonality unclear and loquid modulations were adopted and appeared irregular sforzando, slur, legato.
These feature of Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op.26 clearly show the romantic aspects of liberal forms and structures and compositional techniques, deviating form the traditional forms of the classical music.
