Abstract

The aged society have been increased rapidly as attaining a high standard level of living and medical service. So, most old people needs increasingly follow up check of oral health. The first permanent molars should be cared preferentially so that was first erupted and taken major portion of the mastication. The purpose of this study was analyzing first permanent molars condition that was how catch was on general oral health of the aged, was to make use of the basic data on dental health policy project for an aging society Random sampling was done at the 15 facilities related with the old persons and located in Gwangju metropolitan city. It made a survey on the first permanent molars of 519 persons who have no trouble in understanding each other and have no dementia symptoms and also have no hearing difficulties and oral examination and interviews were performed. Obtained results were as follows : 1.The state of first permanant molars got worse with aging(P<0.05). 2.DMF (Decayed Missing Filling) rate was 97.03% and DMFT (Decayed Missing Filling Teeth) index was 3.35 in the first permanent molars. 3.MT(Missing Teeth) index and MT rate was 2.67 and 79.7% respectively in the first permanent molars. 4.DMFS(Decayed Missing Filling surface) index was 15.92 in the first permanent molars. 5.As the dental health capacity of the first permanent molars was high, present teeth number was increased(P< 0.05). 6.The dental health capacity of first permanent molars showed reversely interre- lationship with DMFT index and DMFS index on the permanent teeth (r=-o.08 p<0.01) These findings showed that the dental health capacity of the first permanent molars get worse. I suggest that the evaluation of dental health project for the aged has to be considered including the healthy status of the first permanent molars.
