Abstract
In the point of view of the human’s right to life and happiness, the value of leisure is continuously being increased with getting a change into the community pursuing a public leisure from modern type of society. In the present study, how such leisure-thought could be reflected into the Korean Old Poetry, which is called as Gosijoo(고시조), to express the path of life for predecessor was investigated. The idea for claiming the leisure-thought might be inherent in a variety of works of Gosijoo allows us to make the following conclusions:
1) Among approximately 5,000 of works of Gosijoo, there are numbers of works implicating the leisure-thought, which include 179 of works bearing a desire of self-expression, 345 of works implying the wish of both human and social relationship, 502 of works suggesting a nature-friendly desire, and 132 of works indicating the urge for pleasure;
2) The works related to the desire for self-expression show the leisure-thought that reflects self-satisfaction;
3) The works that express the desire of human and social relationship appear to represent the leisure-thought implying a friendly mind;
4) The works implicating a nature-friendly desire exhibit a meditative leisure-thought that achieve the value of the united one body between the material and the spiritual world, as well as the communication with and conversion into a nature;
5) The works that express the desire of pursuing a fun due to the limited life imply a self-absorptive leisure-thought;
6) The works of Gosijoo showing a folk recreation and native customs of Korea held in times and seasons of the year display a delightful leisure-thought with the aim of being general similarity nature;
7) The life intending Pung-Ryu and Gang-Ho-Han-Jeong shown in the works of Gosijoo suggests the leisure-thought emphasizing on both moral abundance and free will;
8) The works of Gosijoo aiming Pung-Ryu(풍류) and Gang-Ho-Han-Jeong demonstrate the absorptive leisure-thought getting a compensation for psychological happiness, freedom, and contentment;
9) The life pursuing moral abundance and free will shown in the works of Gosijoo, which is above the reality via a media of liquor, represents a drunken delightful leisure-thought;
10) The life of Pung-Ryu and Gang-Ho-Han-Jeong shown in the works of Gosijoo indicates a retired leisure-thought of An-Bun-Gi-Jouk (Contentment of Proportional Division) that considers the life in a point of view of meditation; and
11) The works of Gosijoo expressing these leisure-thoughts are worth being considered as a leisure literature.
Such leisure that is based on the free will is a basic desire of human being as well as a life science seeking after both quality of life and moral abundance. Therefore, the moral abundance shown in the works of Pung-Ryu and Gang-Ho-Han-Jeong can be equally considered as a leisure-thought reflecting the life seeking happiness. Taken together, these all indicates that Korean people are able to enjoy Pung-Ryu with our environment in nature. In the future, the plentiful leisure culture that meets modern society and is in harmony with tradition and creation remains to be formed.
