- Abstract
- These days, a great number of people regard piano as a basis of music and they use or play the piano. Most of them, however, are unlikely to know the name of the pedals and how to use them. Moreover, they don't know exactly how to handle Damper pedal which is most widely used and deal with it habitually. Therefore, the study in the pedals meets the requirements of the age.
From the Beethoven's time, the pedals have been largely used to express the splendid and exquisite tone of piano. These pedals are made up of three parts. Damper pedal is used to express legato and amplify the volume of piano, Sostenuto pedal to make a sound continue, which is hard to play, and Soft pedal to lower and soften the volume of piano transferring a damper aside.
In the romantic period, prominent pianists such as Chopin, Liszt and so on made use of the pedals as an important device in expressing the magnificent technique and the musicality.
Hence, in the modern time, the use of the pedals for the greater compass and the sound is a matter of course and important object of study we are confronted with. Piano performers are able to play the piano much better through the study in the pedals.
