- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to measure the effect of group art therapy in improving self-esteem and emotional quotient of children from low-income families.
The design of this study is pretest-post test control group design. The independent variable was group art therapy and the dependent variable were self-esteem and emotional quotient.
The subjects was 10 persons of 2 grade of elementary school student from Low-income Families, attending the edu-care classroom in s city.
The program lasted from may 27th through August 20th of 2008, total 24 session with two times a week and each session lasting 45 minutes in the classroom.
The instrument of measurement used in this study is self-esteem test, emotional quotient test and KHTP test and the program of group art therapies that the presenter of this thesis developed.
To check the effectiveness of the study, t-test is adopted for pre and post test of the same age group self-esteem and emotional quotient.
The conclusions of this study were as follows.
First, there was significant difference is between average difference before and after of experiment group and control group which execute art therapy program in self-esteem elevation. from the sub-variable, there was significant difference in socil self-esteem, family self-esteem, school
self-esteem.
Second, there was significant difference is between average difference before and after of experiment group and control group which execute art therapy program in emotional quotient ability. from the sub-variable, there was significant difference in expression of emotion and empathy of emotion,
but no perception of emotion, regulation of emotion and application of emotion.
Could get conclusions that art therapy program is effect in children from low-income families self-esteem elevation and emotional quotient ability promotion according to these study finding, and confirmed possibility that art therapy program may cultivate the consciousness of community while mixing with their peer and interact rigthly.
