Abstract
This study reconstructed evaluation model for establishing color ranges by facade types of buildings on street in order to develop research considering correlation between architectural facade types and buildings at the applied road based on relevancy between shapes and colors with buildings on street of central beauty district in Gwangju and conducts positive test of color ranges to establish minimum objective range in color management of buildings on street reconstructed at conventional street view.
This study consists of three stages. First, it examines buildings on street by block unit in consideration of continuity which is perceptual features of buildings on street and conducts investigating characteristics of facade types of buildings on street related to shapes and uses of buildings, extracting representative types and manufacturing color evaluation models. Second, it analyzed color conditions by facade types of buildings on street, color difference of street block unit by lab color difference diagram and color area. Factors affecting color image of buildings on street were extracted for examining psychological characteristics and visual evaluation structures were analyzed. Finally, color range by change of color width in three properties of color of buildings by facade types on street and color range according to change in three properties of color of individual buildings were analyzed and summarized and then color range according to three properties of color of buildings by facade types on street of applied region based on analysis results of color characteristics. And it describes color management direction of buildings on street based on experimental results.
Results of this study can be summarized as follows.
As a result of analyzing buildings on street of research area through length of street by street block unit, use, height and number of buildings in relation to facade characteristics of buildings, there were 8 groups of characteristics by facade types of buildings on street. Operational definition of typical street photographs of groups removing variables except for building shapes and colors by street block unit was conducted to research relationship between shapes and colors of buildings on street and the eight basic color evaluation models were made.
To analyze physical characteristics of building colors on street by 8 groups classified into elevation types at researched roadsides, color conditions, color values and color area rates were varied depending on facade types, physical color characteristics were different by facade types of buildings on street classified according to type classification index and it was found that opposite image factors of unity and diversity played major roles in visual evaluation structure in evaluating color images of buildings on street by block units.
As a result of analyzing color ranges by the change of width of three properties of buildings and those according to change of three properties of colors in individual buildings by facade types of buildings on street as a means of objective color management considering situation of applying colors of buildings on street, color ranges showing image improvement according to changes of color width of successive elevation of buildings and color changes of individual building facade were different by facade types of buildings on street, allowed color ranges by types were found at partial types by change of color and brightness and at all types by change of chroma and then it was judged that the effective three properties of colors in improving image were caused by change of chroma. According to allowable color ranges from view of image improvement effects, it was known that it secured diversity by keeping image of unity of existing conditions.
Therefore, results of analyzing color characteristics by facade types of buildings on street and establishing color ranges through visual evaluation factors meant the absence of standards and ranges which can execute objective control of inadequacy of comprehensive and far-reaching color control system, methods for improving image of buildings at the successive street should be sought by complex analysis related to image factors not simple preference measurement and detailed consideration of conditions of applied regions, influence of building colors at the roadside on changing street image should be predicted in color management of buildings on street and such a prediction should be performed by objective and rational control method of building colors on street.
