칠을 응용한 현대가구디자인 개발 연구 : 소반의 조형성을 중심으로

Abstract

In the 21st century, men lived life with hope for new millenium and the flow of globalization. A variety of culture and genre such as the fashion, the music, the architecture and the art, etc were integrated to experience gradual integration, for instance, the West's Orientalism and the East's Occidentalism, to create new culture. In the past, the Chinese culture had great influence upon Korea owing to geographical features to let the Korean people not to accept the Chinese culture as it was but to reinterpret it by themselves and develop it in accordance with characteristics of the Koreans. And, the Korean people produced the furniture having simple and plain beauty owing to the natural features, the culture and the racial characteristics. With such a historical background, modern furniture at local market was developed in modern style with the inflow of the Occidental material, design and new technology, etc. In the 1990's, however, the material and technology requiring less production costs were introduced carelessly and conspicuous style was introduced from foreign countries to lure wide range of new customers and imitate it without hesitation to make environmental change. As a result, consumers hated built-in chest of drawers and home office furniture that laid emphasis on function only without sensitivity, so that the humanity and racial characteristics were lost to let men recognize traditional culture slowly together with stability of living life. This study cognized the needs that the Korean people should have connection with the aesthetics of the traditional furniture as well as modern society circumstance to make cultural furniture design producing formative beauty as well as traditional beauty. And, the study made use of formative shape of legs of Soban (small dinner table) of the traditional furniture to apply lacquer and to develop sofa side table for modern residing life. The study examined simple and unsophisticated formation of soft lines of Soban of the traditional furniture to interpret and create again tradition with modern sense to investigate formative designs and to make change of forms and use being suitable to current residing space. The study put enough space to accommodate various kinds of articles at top based on leg types of Soban such as Kujokban, Hojokban and Najuban, etc and to make use of lacquer and elevate durability and moisture-proof and to put patterns of peony and chrysanthemum on doors and top plate of the furniture and produce visual effects. The study removed unnecessary decoration and material that were often used in the past with manual arts and crafts, and made use of lacquer based on naturalism to design sofa side table that could meet modern people's life and culture by focusing on formation of Soban legs.
