This study is to observe the theory of communication-ability after analysis of communication intention of mentally retarded child language, and We study that mentally retarded child is what happen and how to responds from a listener standpoint about another person's talking and how to express from a speaker standpoint about another person reaction.
A question of study is follow.
First, Investigate a communication intention using self-development analysis of mentally retarded child.
Second, To research speaking-ability of characteristic as mentally retarded grade , the children who are subject of study classified two group according to social index, and then make a comparative study of speaking-ability between groups.
Third, Investigate correlation between communication intention and social index to researched children.
This study selected 10 elementary students in the special school who has lived jonnam, gwangju area and able to communicate with language and nonlanguage.
We set up video and recorded children to talk for collection of children's self-expression from July 2005 to september 2005. A record for collection of children's self-expression carry out in the school, and collected natural self-expression as recorded with children, familiar teacher and class-mate during free time activity or interaction time.
Self-expression of children is modified with "analysis table of speaking-ability function" and "analysis table of conversation function" kimyoungtae(2001). We analyzed children's communication intention and then investigated between their characteristic and ratio, and characteristic classified by obstacle grade, also investigated correlation between each communication intention and social index by tested children.
The result of study is following.
First, Mentally retarded children had high rate about 'answering' and 'taking a copy' but had low rate about 'intention, the will · warning' or 'explain the accident or object' according to study of communication intention characteristic using self-expression analysis to mentally retarded children. In other word, children showed passive talking characteristic.
Second, We classified mentally retarded children with two group as social index, as a result, An aged children group was equally distributed throughout answering or say their thinking, besides, request information, request behavior, etc, but younger children group didn't carry out talking except answering and taking a copy.
