- Abstract
- Many studies or data on Zhang ai ling's literature have not been introduced.
Zhang ai ling was brought up in an rapidly-changing environment where Oriental culture is mixed with Western culture and began to write when she was young. In particular, she wrote the " Red Rose and White Rose " , a novel published in 1945 when she was in psychological confusion. So this study is to understand her literary world through analytic psychological approaches such as identification of 'Anima' and 'Animus', targeting on characters in her novel.
‘Anima' is a female element existing in unconsciousness of men and 'Animus' is a male element existing in unconsciousness of women. They are universal and primitive properties beyond socially accepted ideas.
This approach presented by C. G. Jung is based on experimental psychology that prepares an assumption through experiences and applicable psychology which is actually useful. It is approached through causationism and teleology. The " Red Rose and White Rose " represents psychological process of the author created through her experiences, personality and family environment and describes observation and criticism on the world. However, it is not thought that a psychological situation can be determined with description of several characters in this novel. However, it is thought that this analytic-psychological study for the characters in the novel will contribute to understanding the literary trend of the author.
