- Abstract
- This study is to identify what effect the group art therapy has on improving self-esteem of children in low-income. For this purpose, this study targets three boy students in low-income who are participating in after class at a catholic church in B dong, G city.
This program is conducted a total of 16 sessions once a week for 60 minutes. To demonstrate the effect of the program, it uses such tools as a tree picture test (KFD and school life (KSD), and to measure self-esteem, it uses SEI(Self - Esteem Inventory) translated and validated by Shin Cheol in 1997.
The results of the study are presented as follows :
First, the group art therapy has a significant effect on improved self-esteem of the subjects.
Second, the group art therapy has a positive effect on change in tree pictures presented by, KFD, and KSD of the subjects.
Third, the group art therapy brings a positive change in improved self-esteem of the subjects according to the sessions of the therapy.
In spite of the results obtained and several limitations of the program, this study has a significant meaning in that it demonstrates that the program has a positive effect on improving self-esteem of the subjects. Therefore, this study is expected to make a contribution to development of the group art therapy designed to improving self-esteem of the children in low-income.
