Abstract
With the aim of minimizing the damage of biological structures, bone plates with high biocompatibility and high corrosion resistance were studied. The good dental bone plates are sufficient osseointegration at interface between an implanted bone plate and its surrounding bone tissue, and good elasticity and mechanical stability at damaged bone. In this study, in order to fabricate dental and medical bone plates, surface characteristics of dental bone plate manufactured by laser working processing were investigated using potentiostat, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDX), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).
The results obtained were summarized as follows;
1. Surface of laser worked specimen showed more rougher than that of TiN coated and polished bone plate.
2. Pitting corrosion resistance and passive film stability of TiN coated and polished bone plate increased, compared with as laser worked bone plate.
3. The impedance at the lowest frequency showed high phase shift (around 80 deg) and the impedance keeps almost straight line up to this frequency with the slope of -1, both the surface are completely passivated in TiN coated bone plate.
4. The optical density of TiN coated bone plate after gingiva cell and L929 cell culturing showed more higher than that of control and as laser worked bone plate.
It is considered that the TiN coated film which would prevent bone plate from corroding can be applicable to maxillofacial system and confirmed that TiN film act as inhibitor against corrosion on the bone plate surface due to decrease of mechanical defects.
