- Abstract
- This study aims at identifying the effect of a variety of art therapy programs on the physical ability of the mentally-retarded women living in car centers.
It targets five mentally-retarded women whose ages are 29-47 living in C welfare center in Gwangsan-Gu, Gwangju and they have collective art therapy a total of 20 times, three time a week, for 50 minutes.
To identify the effect of art therapy program, it observes their changes in language, emotion and behaviors each session to record the transitional processes of their small muscles. This study compares and analyses the collected data using KISE Development Test-Development of Physical Ability of Small Muscles.
The results of this study are presented as follows:
First, when art therapy program is applied for the mentally-retarded subjects, their elaborate ability, a sub-area of small muscle locomotion, is improved.
Second, when art therapy program is applied for the mentally-retarded subjects, their perceptive ability, a sub-area of small muscle locomotion, is improved. ?
Third, when art therapy program is applied for the mentally-retarded subjects, their writing ability, a sub-area of small muscle locomotion, is improved.
Based on the results, it is demonstrated that the art therapy helps the subjects have interactive relations each other and have interest in them, and is effective in improvement of the physical ability of small muscles.
Therefore, this study suggests that to enhance their physical ability we should develop intentional and organized program activities according to their characteristics and developmental levels.
