- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of Mother and child Art therapy on the change of parenting stress through the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder child and his mother.
The research was conducted during the period between May 2007 and September 2007, which included art therapy of 18 sessions in total, 90 minutes, once a week.
The participants in this study were a 9 year-old Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder child and his mother and a 10 year-old Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder child and his mother.
Questionnaires were used to investigate the change of the parenting stress before and after the mother and child Art therapy was carried out.
First of all, interactions between Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder child and his mother in each session were analysed to reveal the effect of Mother and child Art therapy. Then parenting stress derived from their interactions as well as the point change of questionnaires were examined.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, the interactions between the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder child and his mother showed a positive change through Mother and child Art therapy.
Second, mother A's score of the questionnaires decreased from 249 to 177 suggesting a 28% reduction in parenting stress and mother B's score of the questionnaires decreased from 279 to 177 suggesting a 36.5% reduction in parenting stress.
In conclusion, Mother and child Art therapy for the change of the parenting stress of an Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder child's mother brought the positive improvement to the decrease in the parenting stress of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder children's mothers.
