- Abstract
- The present study purposed to clarify the effects of regular participation in weight training by middle·aged women. For this purpose, 100 middle·aged women were selected, and divided into an exercise group (50) and a control group (50). Organized regular weight training was performed for 12 weeks and changes in mental health was observed before (week 0) and after (week 12) the exercise. Conclusions drawn from the study are as follows.
Middle·aged women’s regular participation in weight training was found to have positive effects on the five sub·factors of mental health (somatization, obsession, depression, anxiety and animosity).
In identifying the effects of regular participation in weight training on middle·aged women’s mental health, first, it was difficult for this study to verify the long·term effects of exercise only through 12 weeks’ experiment, so long·term experiment design is required for research. Second, it is required to develop exercise programs that minimize side effects from exercise and maximize the effects of exercise considering the characteristics, frequency, intensity, hour and period of middle·aged women’s participation in exercise.
