Abstract
The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the microleakage of 3 types of pit and fissure sealants according to use different light sources. 60 human extracted molars were randomly divided into 6 groups of 10 teeth each: Group 1: Admira Seal(VOCO Gmbh,USA) with Conventional , Group 2: Clinpro Sealants(3M ESPE, USA) with Conventional, Group 3: Teethmate F-1(Kuraray, USA) with Conventional, Group 4: Admira Seal(VOCO Gmbh,USA) with Elipar^(TM)FreeLight(3M ESPE, USA), Group 5: Clinpro Sealants(3M ESPE, USA) with Elipar^(TM)FreeLight(3M ESPE, USA), Group 6: Teethmate F-1(Kuraray, USA) with Elipar^(TM)FreeLight(3M ESPE, USA). The pit and fissure selants were applied according to the manufacturere′s instructions. All specimens were thermocycled for 600 cycles between 5℃ and 55℃ with 30-s dwell times at the minimum and maximum temperatures. thereafter, specimens were immersed in 0.5% methylene blue solution at room temperature for 24 hours, throughly brushed to remove any excess dye and stored in tap water at 15℃ until sectioned. All sealed teeth were cut bucco-lingually into four sections using a slow-speed rotating diamond blade. Dye penetration was evaluated with a stereoscope(Olympus PM20,Olympus Optical Ltd., Japan) at 15-fold magnification on the two outer sections and the opposite sites of the two inner sections. The data was statistically analyzed by non parametric Kruskall wallis and Dunn′s tests.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. The mean values of the scores of Group 1 were 0.2±0.13
2. The mean values of the scores of Group 2 were 0.5±0.26
3. The mean values of the scores of Group 3 were 0.0±0.00
4. The mean values of the scores of Group 4 were 0.2±0.11
5. The mean values of the scores of Group 5 were 0.6±0.34
6. The mean values of the scores of Group 6 were 0.0±0.00
Significant differences were found between Group 1, 2, 4, 5 and Group 3, 6(p<0.05) and no statistical significant differences were found among Group 1, 2, 4, 5 and Group 3, 6(p>0.05).
From the results above, the data have indicated that the scores of microleakage were influenced by the types of pit and fissure sealant rather than the types of light curing unit used.
