The objective of this study is to examine the causes, process and effects of the so-called subprime mortgage crisis from the corporate social responsibility view point and to derive some policy implications. The policy implications of the study can be summarized as follows, First, financial regulation and supervision on financial companies should be strengthened to require that all relevent information on the companies be disclosed in a timly manner. Second, the incentive-compatible mechanism for corporate social responsibility of firms to ensure that they satisfy society's expectation. Third, there should be an environment that firms make important decisions based on the long-term perspective rather than the short-term perspective. Fourth, CEOs of firms should realize that they must act in the best interest of various stakeholders including shareholders and society based on corporate social responsibility.
