일과 생활 균형 프로그램의 활용에 관한 연구 - 일본 시세이도, 토시바의 사례를 중심으로

Recently, more corporations began to have the perception that finding and maintaining suitable personnel in their organization are necessary in securing competitiveness. In this vein, work life balance programs (or WLB programs) are getting spotlight as a means to inspire workers' enthusiasm and to enhance their organizational satisfaction and immersion.
By introducing the WLB programs, corporations can help reduce the conflict that comes from workplace and home. In terms of short-term personnel administration aspects, hey can also make sure that they have competent employees in place, that more employees work longer in the organization, and that they increase the motivation of workers in their organization. Furthermore, in terms of medium- and long-term management-wide aspects, they can obtain an increase in labor productivity, an improvement and strengthening of organization structure and a better image of their organization.
This study did not see the WLB just as a family-friendly perspective. It set out its research with the assumption that it meets the needs of corporations to introduce programs aimed at developing corporate strategies along with ‘diversity’ and ‘improvement of working styles.'
The specific purposes of this study are as follows: First, existing literature on the WLB is looked into, and reasons for and efficiency of the WLB are explored at the levels of organizations and individuals. Second, this WLB is more widely used in developed coutries like Japan and the U.S. than in Korea. Research is made into Japanese WLB where the national government is leading the program on the account of the aging society and low birthrate. Specifically, the cases of Shisedo and Toshiba Corporations will be delved into. Third, based on the findings in the cases of the Japanese organizations, efforts will be made to see if there are any constructive ways to apply the program in Korean corporations in the future.
The following useful suggestions could be derived in the two cases of the Japanese corporations where the WLB is successfully applied. First, it is necessary to run the WLB not as part of a welfare program but as a corporate strategy. Second, a department exclusively devoted to the WLB should be established in order to carry it out from a viewpoint of managerial strategy and to make sure that it is run properly. Third, when implementing the WLB, corporations should be aware of their members' needs in an objective way. Fourth, a system whose application is not interfered with in terms of regulations should be set up and be available in reality.
Some corporations in Korea are still considering the WLB as part of their welfare programs. Therefore, this study would be able to find its meaning in that it can make a suggestion that the WLB should be introduced and applied from the viewpoint of managerial strategy in a way that seeks flexibility in workplace.
