근원 김용준의 수필 연구 : 김용준의 예술관과 ‘문인화식 글쓰기’를 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 화가이자 문인이었던 김용준의 수필을 중심으로 그의 예술세계를 가로지르는 의식을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 김용준은 근대화가 이루어지던 시기 문예사의 한 페이지를 장식하며 활발한 활동을 펼쳤지만, 그의 수필에 관한 단독의 연구는 이루어지지 않고 있다. 수필은 작가의 의식이 직접적으로 드러난다. 그런 의미에서 김용준의 수필에서는 화가이자 미술이론가였던 김용준의 예술 의식을 확인할 수 있다. 예술을 예술로써 대하고자 했던 예술 지상주의적 태도와 예술가가 지녀야 할 강직한 태도, 그리고 우리 화가가 지향해야 할 동양주의의 예술까지, 그의 예술세계를 아우르는 세계관을 확인할 수 있다. 따라서 그의 수필을 살펴보는 것은 김용준의 예술 의식을 살펴볼 수 있는 것과 동시에 우리 예술의 정체성에 대한 고민으로 점철되었던 근대화 시기 예술인들의 고민을 들여다볼 수 있는 일이 된다. 미술인이었던 김용준의 문인으로서의 면모를 살핌으로써 우리 문예사의 외연이 확장되기를 기대해본다.

This study explores the artistic consciousness of Kim Yong-jun who was a painter and writer based on his essays. Kim Yong-joon actively performed in literary history during the modernization period, but no independent research has been conducted on his essays. Essays directly reveal the author's consciousness. In this sense, Kim Yong-joon's essay reveals his artistic consciousness as a painter and artist. From his art-based attitude of treating art as an art, to the upright attitude that an artist should have, to the art of orientalism that our artist should pursue, we can see his worldview encompassing the world of art. Therefore, taking a look at Kim Yong-joon's essay provides a glimpse into the artistic consciousness of Kim Yong-joon, as well as into the concerns of artists during the modernization period, which has been marked by concerns about the identity of our art. We look forward to expanding the appearance of our literary artist Kim Yong-joon as a writer.
