웃는 만담 레코드와 해프닝의 미디어 : 신불출의 (1933)에 관하여

Abstract

이 연구는 를 둘러싼 ‘웃음’의 사회적, 시대적 맥락을 파악하고자 한다. 이를 위해 신불출의 흥행술, 당대 미디어 환경과 수용자의 집단적 감성, 검열과 시장의 원리가 교호하는 식민지 문화 정치의 상황을 함께 살펴봤다. 를 에로․그로․넌센스가 각광을 받던 당대 유행에 비등(沸騰)시킨 것은 식민지 조선의 대중이었다. 하지만 통치 권력의 입장에선 순치(馴致)된 웃음의 코드에 불과했다. 대중 역시 전근대적 연희 양식을 닮은 만담이 낯설지 않았다. 신불출만이 아니라 여타의 만담 스타들에 의해 의 레퍼토리는 반복적으로 답습됐다. 이것들이 1930년대 웃는 만담 레코드의 계보를 이뤘다. 는 내용상 특별난 의미가 없고 클래식처럼 집중적이고 진중한 청취를 요구하지 않았다. 이 때문에 역설적으로 청자의 어떤 상황에도 뒤엉킬 수 있는 ‘소리’로 재구성된다. 치안 방해와 풍속 괴란 검열을 걱정할 필요도 없고, 쇼윈도의 배경음악으로 쓰일 수 없을 만큼 심각하거나 지루하지도 않았다. 게다가 웃음의 촉발은 이런 걸 듣고 있는 ‘어떤 상황들’을 청자가 인식함으로써 다르게 생겨날 수 있었다. 는 ‘해프닝의 미디어’였던 것이다.

The study seeks to understand the social and contemporary context of laughter surrounding (1933). To this end, we took a look at the context of Sin Bool Chool(申不出)'s box office, the collective sensibility of the public and the colonial culture politics where censorship and market principles are codified. It was the public of the colonial Joseon that set on fire at the time when Ero-Gro-Nonsense were in the limelight. But it was not threatening the ruling forces at all. The public was also not unfamiliar with Mandam(漫談) that resemble the style of the previous generation of entertainment. The repertoire of was repeated not only by Sin Bool Chool but also by other Mandam stars. doesn't mean anything in content, nor does it require intensive and serious listening like classical music. Paradoxically, it is reconstructed as a sound that can be confused by any situation in the listener. There is no need to worry about censorship of the disturbance of public security and public morals, nor is it serious or boring enough to be used as a background music for show windows. In addition, the trigger of laughter could have been caused by the audience's perception of ‘Any situation’ hearing this. was the ‘Media of Happening’
