서양고대철학의 수용과 한국화의 전망

Abstract

본 논문은 한국에서의 서양고대철학의 수용과 토착화를 다룬다. 구체적으로 서양고대철학의 수용 과정과 그것의 주요텍스트들의 번역 현황을 다루고, 다음으로 한국에서의 서양고대철학연구의 특징과 과제를 살펴보고자 한다. 우선 서양고대철학은 일반적으로 1900년에 처음 수용되어 1960년 전후에 정착되었다고 하지만, 최초로 서양철학이 처음 소개된 시기는 1631년경으로 추정될 수 있다. 당시 한국으로 들어온 그리스도교 문헌들을 통해 서양 고중세 철학의 주요 개념들을 접했던 것으로 볼 수 있다. 서양고대철학의 원전번역은 가장 중요한 과제로 현재 소크라테스 이전 철학자들의 단편들과 플라톤 작품들이 거의 번역되었지만, 아리스토텔레스의 작품들과 헬레니즘 철학의 작품들이 본격적으로 번역될 필요가 있다. 다음으로 나는 한국에서의 서양고대철학 연구의 특징과 과제를 다음 두 가지 측면에서 다루었다. 첫째, 현재 서양고대철학의 텍스트연구가 어떻게 주체성을 확보할 수 있는지를 살펴본다. 나는 리쾨르의 텍스트 이론을 통해 한국에서 서양고대철학의 텍스트 연구를 통해서도 얼마든지 주체적으로 철학을 할 수 있는 가능성을 타진했다. 둘째, 서양고대철학의 주요 주제들 중 한국화에 적합한 것으로 ‘철학적 사유의 기원’, ‘탁월성’, ‘앎과 행위’ 등 세 가지로 제안했다. 미래의 글로벌 사회에서 장소성의 역할은 점차 감소할 가능성이 높고 첨단번역기술의 발달로 소통이 훨씬 자유로울 수 있다. 이러한 특징은 우리가 사는 세계의 일반화와 더불어 우리의 사유의 보편화를 가속화할 것이다. 여기서 중요한 것은 우리가 인류의 역사를 통해 공유했던 문제를 독자적인 방식으로 이해하고 설명하며 해결하려는 노력이다. 이것은 ‘지금 여기서’ 우리의 철학을 산출하고 형성해낼 것이다.

This paper aims to deal with the transmission and localization of Western ancient philosophy to Korea. I try to present the process of accepting Western ancient philosophy and translating its main texts, and then examine the characteristics and tasks of studying Western ancient philosophy in Korea. First of all, it is said that Western ancient philosophy was generally accepted in 1900 and settled around 1960, but was first introduced around 1631 in Korea. Through the Christian texts of the time that entered Korea, it can be seen that we had grasped the main concepts of Western ancient and middle philosophy. The translation of the original texts of Western ancient philosophy is the most important task, and the fragments of the pre-Socratic philosophers and Plato works are almost complete. The works of Aristotle and the works of Hellenistic philosophy need to be systematically translated. Next, I have discussed the characteristics and tasks of Western ancient philosophical studies in Korea in two aspects. First, we examine through Ricoeur's text theory how text study of ancient philosophy can secure subjectivity. Second, I proposed three main themes of Western ancient philosophy: 'the origin of philosophical thought', 'excellence', and 'knowing and acting' as being appropriate for the localization of ancient greek philosophy in Korea. In the global society of the future, the role of 'place' is likely to decline gradually, and the development of translation technology can make communication much easier. This feature will accelerate the universalization of thinking with the generalization of the world. What matters is to try to understand, explain, and solve the problem in one's own way that we has shared through the history of mankind. This will make and create our own philosophy hic et nunc.
