근대전환기 한국 종교․미학의 성찰과 전망 : 우리철학총서 집필내용을 중심으로

Abstract

본 논고의 목적은 우리철학총서 집필내용을 중심으로 근대전환기 한국 종교․미학에 대한 성찰과 전망을 시도하는 데에 있다. 이 연구는 근대전환기 전통철학 전반을 통섭적인 방법으로 서술하는 가운데 우리철학의 자생이론을 기반으로 현대적 가치를 체계화한다는 대주제의 하위 분야로서 진행되었다. 전통철학인 유(儒)․불(佛)․도(道)를 중심으로 근대전환기 철학 양상인 민족종교 그리고 전통 미의식 등을 (총론), (성리학), (양명학), (기철학), (실학), (도교․불교), (민족종교), (미학)의 8가지로 구분하여 이 시기 전통 철학을 통섭적으로 고찰하였다. 그 중 본 논고는 근대전환기 한국 종교와 미학을 담당하고 있다. 본 논고에서 말하는 ‘근대전환기’는 서세동점의 시작인 19세기 중후반부터 일제강점기를 포괄한다. 이 시기를 포함하여 전통철학의 연구는 60% 이상이 유교분야이고, 한국 종교와 미학에 대한 연구는 매우 적다. 하지만 이 시기 종교와 미학은 근대전환기 기층 민중의 근대적 문제의식이 잘 반영되어 있으며, 유교철학보다 독자적인 자생이론이 잘 형성되어 있다. 이러한 특징으로 한국 종교와 미학은 현재 우리 철학의 지향점을 보다 명확히 할 수 있다는 점에서 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 나아가, 다양한 전통철학의 연구와 함께, 곧 도래할 통일한국의 통합 가치와 글로컬 시대의 미래 구상 속에서 ‘우리철학’의 의미와 방향성을 제시할 수 있다.

This paper proposes a reflection and prospect for Korean Religions and Aesthetics in the period of transition to modern era, especially focused on a series of Woori Philosophy. The specific objects of this study is Korean Taoism, Korean Buddhism, Donghak, Daejongkyo, Jeungsankyo, Won- Buddhism and Korean Aesthetics from the late 19th century to the period of Japanese colonial rule. In this era, Korean people(masses) faced with social contradictions of the times, that is, nation-contradiction by Imperialism(imperial Japan) and class-contradiction by feudalism(feudal Joseon). These social contradictions of the times propelled them into profound tragic fate under the socio- political turmoil. In this paper, we pay attention to what the Korean people believe, trust and depend on in terms of religions, and to what they cherish and love with respect to Korean aesthetics. On the basis of this research, we will examine how modern critical mind of Korean people (masses) has been formed in their lives at the period of transition to the modern times, and furthermore, explore what Korean philosophy should pursue from what perspective.
