기억과 증언, 그리고 새로운 저널리즘의 시도

Abstract

이 연구는 저널리즘의 관점에서 기억과 증언의 문제를 고찰한다. 그리고 우리 시대의 다양한 기억과 증언의 글쓰기가 저널리즘의 매우 중요한 영역임을 주장하고자 한다. 따라서 이 글은 먼저 문학의 영역에서 ‘논픽션과 문학’에 대하여 최근 제기된 장르론적 논의에서 출발하여, 그것을 매우 훌륭한 저널리즘으로 규정할 수 있는 가능성을 탐색한다. 하지만 이는 역사와 기억, 기억과 증언 문학, 그리고 저널리즘과 기억이라는 다양한 이론적 관점의 검토가 필요한 주제이다. 그래서 첫째 기억과 증언에 대한 연구에서 그동안 저널리즘이라는 차원이 간과되었던 이유를 이론사적 맥락에서 고찰한 다음, 둘째로 디지털 저널리즘의 시대에 저널리즘의 자기 혁신을 위해 필요한 보다 새로운 포맷의 글쓰기 실천에 대한 요구를 검토한다. 결론적으로 이 연구는 시대적인 역사 인식의 변화, 그리고 디지털⋅모바일 저널리즘 생태계의 등장 과정에서 기억과 증언 문학은 대단히 중요한 저널리즘 글쓰기의 영역으로 적극 해석될 필요성이 있음을 주장한다. 그리고 조영래의 『전태일 평전』, 광주의 저널리스트들이 취재하고 황석영이 기록한 『죽음을 넘어, 시대의 어둠을 넘어』와 같은 작품들이 한국 저널리즘의 역사에서 대단히 중요한 이정표로 재해석될 수 있음을 주장한다.

This study examines the issue of memory and testimony in terms of journalism. I would like to argue that the writing of various memories and testimonies that are uncommon in our day is also a very important area of journalism. Thus, this article first examines the genreological considerations raised recently in the field of literature, 'nonfiction and literature', and argues that it can be a very good area of journalism. However, this is a subject that should be examined in various theoretical perspectives such as history and memory, memory and testimony literature, and journalism and memory. In this respect, this study firstly considers the reason why journalism has been neglected in the study of memory and testimony in the context of the theoretical history, and second, in the era of digital journalism, we examine the need for a new format of writing–more opinion-oriented, subjective and advocacy writing–required for self–innovation of journalism. In conclusion, this study argues that memory and testimony literature need to be actively interpreted as the area of journalism writing, in which memories and testimonies are very important in the changes of historical awareness of memorization and testimony, and in the changes of digital and mobile journalism ecosystem. In this context, this study raises the necessity of reinterpreting works such as Cho Yeong Rae's Life of Jeon Tae Il, and Hwang Seok-Young‘s Beyond Death, Beyond the Darkness of the Times as a very important milestone in the history of Korean journalism.
