Abstract
Domestic Cinnaomum japonicum Siebold is known as a traditional medicinal plant in Korea. In this study, various solvent extracts (hot water, ultrasonic, 70% ethanol, and 100% ethanol) of C. japonicum leaf and its branches were prepared and the antioxidant activities, as well as total polyphenol flavonoid contents, were evaluated. The 70% ethanol extract showed the highest antioxidant activities, as well as total phenolic and total flavonoid contents among them. Specifically, the branch extract from C. japonicum gave better antioxidant activities and polyphenol contents than those of the leaf extract. The major polyphenols were epigallocatechin, gallate, and epicatechin. This ethnic plant would be useful for the development of cosmetic ingredients
