- Abstract
- An efficient location management plays an important role in mobile communication networks. In this study, a direction-based location registration (DIR) scheme and its modified scheme called a unidirection-based location registration (uniDIR), both of which adopt a line paging to reduce paging costs, are considered. The problems of the previous performance analysis method for DIR and uniDIR are pointed out, and a new accurate analysis model to properly analyze the correct performance is proposed. Using the new analysis method, the exact performance of DIR and uniDIR is obtained, and the performance comparison results of the two schemes are presented. According to the results of performance analyses in various environments, this study confirms that DIR has better performance than uniDIR in most cases despite the reduction in paging cost.
