- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to the extraction availability of Gynostemma pentaphyllum leaves on different ethanol concentration extraction solvent were compared and analyzed. We prepared extracts of different solvents. Total phenol and flavonoid contents of each extract were measured. These extracts were evaluated for antioxidant activity by measuring trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAC), oxygen radical absorption capacity (ORAC), DPPH, nitric oxide, superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity. The total phenol contents of extracts was 44.16~66.34 mg QAE/g, and the total phenol content in the extracts was significantly increased when ethanol concentration of 60% or more was used. Total flavonoid content was 6.98~16.89 mg QE/g and 60, 80% ethanol extracts were significantly higher. In the antioxidant experiments, 60% ethanol extracts showed high activity in nitric oxide, superoxide radical scavenging activity, TEAC and ORAC which showed correlation with total phenol and flavonoid contents. The optimal ethanol concentration used for the extraction of antioxidant-related components from Gynostemma pentaphyllum leaves is considered to be about 60%, antioxidant activity was thought to be related to total phenol and flavonoid contents.
