- Abstract
- The leaves of three domestic bamboo species (Phyllostachys pubescens, P. nigra var. henonis Stapf., and P. bambusoides) are easy to obtain but their utilization is limited to some furniture, construction and fiber. In this study, polyphenol contents and antioxidant activities of the bamboo leaves extracts (water, methanol, and ethanol) and have been examined to develop functional ingredients for cosmetics. Polyphenol contents have been determined with spectrophotometric and HPLC method.. Antioxidant activities have been assayed using DPPH and ABTS radicals scavenging assays. Suitable bamboo species for water extraction was P. nigra var. henonis Stapf., for 70% ethanol extraction P. bambusoides, and for methanol extraction P. nigra var. henonis Stapf. This result would be useful for the development of functional cosmetics.
