Abstract

Reading of vehicle license plates is an essential prerequisite process for a traffic monitoring system. Images acquired from roads are affected by different environmental factors including the time of day, the weather and sunlight. An embedded system is a highly reliable, compact system that can enable low power consumption, vehicle license plate recognition, and detection of vehicles in videos. Therefore, in this study, we tested the proposed design, which can be implemented using an embedded system with limited available resources, to evaluate its ability to extract license plates accurately from real-time, day and night images.
