- Abstract
- Filifactor alocis has recently been isolated from periodontitis patients, and is considered to be related with periodontitis. However, their growth conditions are still unknown. This study was therefore undertaken to develop a suitable medium for F. alocis growth, and to investigate its suitability through bacterial growth in single- or co-cultivation with periodontal pathogens. The culture medium was formulated using animal nutrients and abundant peptides. The bacterial co-cultivations were performed by Millicell® Cell culture insert. (Millipore, Billerica, MA). Maximumgrowth of F. alocis was in the developed medium, as compared to conventional media. F. alocis and periodontal pathogens were further co-cultivated in the developed medium and in each specific conventional media. These results suggest that the newly developed medium may be suitable for the growth of F. alocis, and would be useful in investigating the virulence factors of F. alocis as a single culture or in co-cultivation with periodontal pathogens.
