- Abstract
- Paulo Freire emphasized the importance of developing as an independent learner by taking critical views through literacy class participation which may help enhance an individual’s thinking and action process. The purpose of this study is to suggest a new direction in literacy class that develops an individual learner’s self-reflective and independent thinking ability by reconstructing the contents of the literacy class which takes Freire’s perspectives on literacy education into account. The findings will serve as the first step in addressing the limitations of accredited literacy education, which tends to focus on functional education. In addition, this study provides a foundation that help literacy education learners develop independent and critical skills.
