Abstract

Currently, the average annual occupational dose in Korean nuclear power plants (NPPs) over the past 10 years is recorded at 0.3-0.8 mSv, maintaining a very low dose. However, NPP workers who perform some high-exposure work receive relatively high doses compared to workers who perform other work. Comparing the radiation doses of these high-dose and high-exposure works and other works, it can be confirmed that inequity in occupational doses exists from a relative perspective even though the dose is low. To resolve this exposure inequity, the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) issued ICRP 103 recommendations in 2007, recommending the application of dose constraints as a means of optimizing radiation protection among radiation workers. This study classified the work performed at NPPs to determine high-dose and high-exposure work for NPP workers. In addition, this study analyzed radiation dose data by reactor types and by NPP sites using the NPP radiation management yearbook and final safety analysis report.
