Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine whether there was differences in hostility, anger experience level, and dysfunctional anger expression styles depending on the motivational dimension of obsessive-compulsive disorder. A survey was conducted on a nationwide group of non-clinical adults in their 20s and 30s. The Obsessive-Compulsive Trait Core Dimension Questionnaire(OC-TCDQ) was used to measure the motivational dimension of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and the Aggression Questionnaire(AQ) and State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2(STAXI-2) were used to measure various aspects of anger and aggression. All analysys were performed using SPSS27. In order to classify groups according to the motivational dimension of obsessive-compulsive disorder, the subjects were classified into three groups(harm avoidant, incompleteness and control group) according to the score level of the OC-TCDQ, And the differences in each anger measures were compared between these three groups. The following is summary of the results. First, hostility was highest in the following order: the harm avoidant group, incompleteness group, and the control group. Second, there was no difference in trait anger between the harm avoidant group and the incompleteness group, but both groups were higher than the control group. Third, When comparing differences in dysfunctional anger expression, anger suppression was high in the order of the harm avoidant group, incompleteness group, and the control group. However, there was no difference in anger expression between the harm avoidant group and the incompleteness group. In summary, the groups in the harm avoidant dimension and the incompleteness dimension showed different patterns in hostility and dysfunctional anger expression styles. The results of this study supported the validity of two-dimensional model of OCD and suggested that a more valid classification criterion for OCD could be based on the motivational dimension. These results of this study suggest that it is necessary to consider the motivational differences in the symptoms they exhibit when treating patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Based on the results, the significance and limitations of this study were discussed.
