Abstract
Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of Torreya nucifera organic solvent extract containing monoterpene Jun-geon Kim Advisor: Prof. Hyun-Jae Shin, Ph.D. Department of Beauty and Cosmetology, Graduate School of Industrial Technology and Entrepreneurship, Chosun University Torreya nucifera leaf extract showed antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cognitive function inhibition physiological activities. In particular, the ABTS antioxidant activity and AChE inhibitory activity test results showed similar patterns, and the SFE extract, which had the best antioxidant activity, was confirmed to effectively inhibit NO even at low concentrations. As a result of conducting a substance analysis to identify the active substances for various physiological activities of Torreya nucifera leaf extract, isopulegol, which had not been identified in previous Torreya nucifera studies, was confirmed in the Torreya nucifera leaf SFE extract. Isopulegol is a monoterpenoid that exhibits excellent anti-inflammatory, pain relieving, and neuroprotective effects. It is thought that the physiological activity of isopulegol affects the AChE inhibitory ability of Torreya nucifera leaf SFE extract. Therefore, the excellent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and AChE inhibitory effects of Torreya nucifera leaves are expected to be effective in developing fragrance products utilizing the physiological activity of Torreya nucifera leaves.
