Abstract
In this study, to investigate the effect of weight control through swimming exercise on changes in body composition, active oxygen, heart rate and blood pressure, and vascular aging in overweight women, 12 of 24 overweight women were in the swimming exercise group and 12 in the control group. Swimming exercise was conducted for a total of 12 weeks, 3 times a week, 60 minutes per day. Overweight women's exercise program was measured twice before and after the program, and repeated measures analysis of variance was conducted to identify the main effect and interaction effect between the two groups. When a significant difference was found, a paired-sample t-test was additionally conducted, and the following conclusions were drawn based on the findings.
1. Weight control through swimming exercise showed significant differences in weight and body fat percentage in the exercise group in the body composition of overweight women. The main effect was found in the measurement period, and there was an interaction effect between the measurement period and the group.
2. Active Oxygen showed a significant difference in the exercise group, and the main effect appeared in the measurement period, and there was an interaction effect between the measurement period and the groups.
3. Heart rate showed a significant difference in the exercise group, and the main effect was found in the measurement period, and there was an interaction effect between the measurement period and the groups.
4. Among the blood pressures, Systolic Blood Pressure showed a significant difference in the exercise group, and the main effect was found in the measurement period, and there was an interaction effect between the measurement period and the groups. In addition, diastolic blood pressure showed a significant difference in the exercise group, and the main effect was found in the measurement period, and there was an interaction effect between the measurement period and the groups.
5. Vascular Aging showed a significant difference in the exercise group, and the main effect was found in the measurement period, and there was an interaction effect between the measurement period and the group.
As such, swimming exercise in overweight women reduced weight control and body fat percentage, and also positively improved changes in active oxygen, heart rate, blood pressure, and vascular aging.
