Abstract
This study aimed to address the lack of research on middle school teachers from the MZ generation, despite their growing presence in the teaching profession amid conflicts and communication difficulties among different generations of teachers. Qualitative research was conducted by interviewing representative teachers from the X, M, and Z generations, who shared their experiences and solutions for conflicts and mutual understanding among generations, with a greater emphasis on the latter.
The interviews were conducted over a period of two years to understand the impact of changing environments on conflicts and communication among teachers from different generations.
The study revealed that teachers from different generations had different backgrounds and experiences, which influenced their responses and attitudes towards conflicts and communication. The study participants discussed various areas of conflict and communication difficulties and demonstrated an understanding of the characteristics and culture of each generation, while also showing a positive attitude towards change.
Based on the interviews, four main directions were proposed to improve mutual understanding and conflict resolution among generations. First, it is important to create a positive and healthy organizational environment that fosters practical communication through professional learning communities and teacher clubs. Second, mentoring programs were recommended to support MZ generation teachers in adapting to school life. Third, support in difficult areas such as counseling was suggested to improve empathy and understanding among generations. Lastly, a generational community, where different generations work together and share a democratic and mature school culture, was proposed.
In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of understanding and addressing conflicts and communication difficulties among different generations of teachers. By implementing the proposed directions, it is hoped that a generational community within school organizations will be embraced to promote mutual understanding and conflict resolution. Future studies should continue to build on these directions to support the integration of new generations into school organizations.
