Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the obstacles and problems of adult taekwondo for the resocialization of adult taekwondo, which has been stagnant, and to find ways to develop the adult taekwondo and expand the taekwondo market, and to provide basic data to taekwondo centers on how to revitalize adult taekwondo.
To achieve the purpose of this study, the following research questions were set: First, what are the obstacles to adult taekwondo training? Second, What are the factors that hinder re-socialization after discontinuing Taekwondo training? Third, what are the ways to revitalize adult taekwondo training?
In this study, in-depth interviews were conducted using a mixture of unstructured and semi-structured interviews to understand and grasp the research participants' experiences of practicing taekwondo, and the research subjects were six adults who practiced taekwondo in Gwangju Metropolitan City, and qualitative research methods were used to analyze the obstacles to adults' resocialization into taekwondo and to revitalize adult taekwondo in order to promote adult taekwondo in each region. Based on the grounded theory approach, the data analysis was divided into transcription, coding, categorization, and semanticization, and the following results were obtained.
First, we found that there were a number of barriers that prevented participants from practicing taekwondo as adults. Most of the study participants had difficulty finding classes and programs for adults because of perceptions and prejudices that the program is for children and adolescents, lack of time, lack of adult training time, and other sports activities.
Second, it was found that the participants who were participating in exercise were continuing their other sports activities such as dance, tennis, and soccer, while the participants who were not participating in exercise had the intention to participate in exercise but lacked the will to actually participate in exercise for reasons such as adjusting to school life and relaxing after work. However, it was found that the participants' willingness to resocialize varied among individuals. Those who were willing to practice taekwondo again had many positive responses, such as having good memories, feelings, and emotions of exercising as a child and developing balance and physical strength by being able to learn seriously as an adult. By contrast, those who were not willing to practice taekwondo again were not willing to learn again because they had already practiced taekwondo as a child and wanted to learn other sports.
Third, in order to promote adult taekwondo training, exercise programs that are suitable for adults by level should be established, and adult taekwondo classes should be expanded by establishing separate classes for adults instead of training in child-oriented programs. In consideration of the adults’ interests in experiencing
other sports, it can be seen that adult taekwondo should be revitalized through improvement by applying other sports programs and combining various sports not only taekwondo.
