Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between academic stress, depression, self-regulation ability, and shopping addiction of college students.
To this end, this study accomplished a survey of four-year college students, and a step-by-step regression analysis was mainly accomplished in order to verify the mediating effect of depression and self-regulation ability in the relationship between academic stress and shopping addiction.
The following is a summary of the findings on the research problem.
First, as a result of research and analysis on the effect of college students' academic stress on shopping addiction, it was found that academic stress had a significant positive (+) effect on internet shopping addiction.
Second, as a result of research on the mediating effect of depression on shopping addiction, it was found that academic stress had a significant positive (+) effect on depression and soapy water addiction. In addition, depression had a significant positive (+) effect on internet shopping addiction, and academic stress had a significant positive (+) effect on shopping addiction. Therefore, depression seems to partially mediate the effect of academic stress on shopping addiction. Third, as a result of research on the mediating effect of self-regulation ability on internet shopping addiction, academic stress has a significant negative (-) effect on self-regulation ability, but a significant positive (+) effect on internet shopping addiction. In addition, although academic stress had a significant positive (+) effect on internet shopping addiction, the effect of self-regulation ability on shopping addiction was not statistically significant. Therefore, it has been confirmed that academic stress in self-regulation ability does not mediate the relationship with shopping addiction.
The implications and implications for the research results described above are as follows.
First, it suggests that Internet shopping can lead to serious symptoms of shopping addiction in the long run, although it has a positive effect on mood change, pleasure, and level of play outside of negative emotions in the short run. Therefore, treatment is required with active intervention.
Second, it suggests that mental health management and educational intervention in addiction behavior are necessary to prevent depression and Internet shopping addiction problems caused by academic stress in advance.
Third, vaping addiction does not decrease even if it has a high self-regulation ability, suggesting that the risk of addiction behavior cannot be treated with individual efforts alone. Therefore, in order to reduce shopping addiction, efforts are needed to relieve fundamental academic stress and the resulting depression.
