Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the moderated mediating effect of self-compassion through Inflated responsibility on the relationship between trait anger and compulsive checking. The survey was conducted on 376 adult men and women aged 19-35 living across the country. The questionnaire included scales of state-trait anger expression inventory (STAXI-K), padua inventory-washington state university revision(PI-WSUR), obsessive beliefs questionnaire 87(OBQ-87) and self-compassion scale(K-SCS). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 26.0 and SPSS PROCESS Macro version 4.0 for verifying moderated mediating effect. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, the correlation between all variables was statistically significant. There was significant positive correlation between trait anger and inflated responsibility, and between inflated responsibility and compulsive checking. On the other hand, there was negatve correlation between self-compassion, inflated responsibility and compulsive checking. Second, the significant partially mediating effect of inflated responsibility on the relationship between trait anger and compulsive checking was found. The higher the trait anger, the higher the level of responsibility and compulsive checking. Third, the moderating effect of self-compassion on the relationship between inflated responsibility and compulsive checking was found. Fourth, the moderated mediating effect of self-compassion on the relationship between trait anger, inflated responsibility, and compulsive checking was found. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
