Abstract
First mentioned in Hanover, Germany in 2011, and first introduced as Industry 4.0 through the German government in 2013, the 4th industrial revolution revitalizes existing industries and appears as a new growth engine. The 4th industrial revolution is optimized for all areas of industry and human activity based on breakthrough technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, and develops according to demand. In this trend, we are researching directions and strategies to survive and grow according to changes in technology and industry.
In this trend, the Korean economy has been slowing down for a long time, and economic imbalance is deepening. As the economic imbalance starts from the gap between large companies and SMEs, the growth of SMEs can be said to be the key to solving the economic imbalance. Although there is a lot of support and interest in SMEs, it is rare to grow into a global company. The growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is an essential element in order for Korea to break out of its scale and enter the ranks of advanced countries in the true sense of the word.
In order to find the global growth direction of SMEs, this thesis selected companies that have successfully entered the global market and conducted a study to analyze the cases of each company. In addition, case companies were analyzed focusing on the perspectives of leadership theory and network theory.
In the growth of each company, it was confirmed that the company grew and entered the global market based on the entrepreneur's competency through the entrepreneurship and leadership of the manager. In addition, the manager's personal network or the corporate network makes it possible to enter new businesses and markets while filling the lack of resources inherently possessed by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
By deviating from the existing research on SMEs and conducting case studies targeting Korean and overseas companies that have entered the global market, Korean SMEs have chosen and explored the future direction. In particular, by focusing on the CEO and the corporate network, implications for corporate-level research are presented.
